Christmas Dreams
White Christmas ~ by Irving Berlin

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those in the UK affected by flooding at the moment.

We've had torrential rain here, but luckily we live in an area not affected by flooding. But even so, my garden was under water this morning. It drained away pretty quickly once the rain stopped, but it still wasn't nice to see.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of the policeman who died. So tragic! :(

K and I got back a couple of hours ago from the first night of the Hub 3 convention. We decided to have an early night tonight, as we have an early start in the morning. We're definitely planning on staying to party tomorrow night, though! :D

Very disappointed to hear that James won't be able to make it this weekend, but happy that his injury doesn't appear to be too serious. I'm sure we'll still have a great time, as there are still some great guests (I'm particularly looking forward to meeting Paul Copley and Nicholas Farrell - and K is excited about meeting GDL again!) and it's always good to spend time with friends. :)

The opening ceremony turned out not to be an opening ceremony at all, as no guests turned up. o_O It was hardly worth filling up the hall at all! The Gold Pass drinks reception has had to be postponed until tomorrow. Luckily for me I only have a Standard Pass, but I'm sure the Gold Pass holders must be disappointed.

I actually feel quite sorry for the organisers of this event. It must be a complete nightmare for them! And I have to say, so far the staff have been nothing but friendly and helpful - and the Hilton hotel has to be one of the most wheelchair friendly hotels I've ever been in!

But I'm still glad that we live so close to the event that we can drive there and back every day - which makes things so much easier for K. :)

And next week is Hallowhedon. My first weekend away on my own EVER! :D

Such a shock to hear the tragic news that Stephen Gately, singer with the Irish pop group Boyzone, has died in his sleep. He was only 33. So sad. :(

I'm ashamed to say I've missed far too many of my LJ friends birthdays this year. I'm going to have to try so much harder in 2010!

That being said, I couldn't let the day go by without wishing a very happy birthday to the lovely [info]hesadevil. I hope you're having a wonderful day, Pat, and that the year ahead is a good one for you. *many hugs*

Books read in August and September:

1. Dead To The World by Charlaine Harris - Fourth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, and the best so far.
2. Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris - Fifth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.
3. Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris - Sixth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I found this book quite confusing at first, as there appeared to be a huge chunk of story missing. I found out later that there is a short story that addresses the missing pieces. I'm not sure it's a good idea to have such an important element of the story addressed only in a short story, as I'm sure there are many people (like me) who have never read it. It definitely had an effect on my enjoyment of the book.

The Sookie Stackhouse books are not the most well-written books in the world, but they're still very enjoyable. Pure escapism! :)

4. Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs - Second book (but third story - there's also a short story set in this universe) in the 'Alpha and Omega' series. I loved it.
5. Personal Demon by Kelley Armstrong - Book eight in 'The Women of the Otherworld' series.
6. Living With The Dead by Kelley Armstrong - Book nine in 'The Women of the Otherworld' series.
7. Men of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong. A collection of Kelley Armstrong's short stories featuring the men of the otherworld. Very enjoyable.
8. Frostbitten by Kelley Armstrong. The latest book in the 'Women of the Otherworld' series. This book follows werewolves Elena and Clay, and is one of the best so far. Loved it!

I haven't got much time as it's K's day off from college today, and we're going to visit my Mum and Dad shortly.

Just a quick reaction to Supernatural S5 Ep2 (spoilers) )

I feel as though a part of my youth has just died. :(

I adored Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, and both movies will always hold a special place in my heart. In fact, I only watched my DVD of Dirty Dancing last week and it brought back so many happy memories of my teenage years.

Patrick was always so vibrant and full of life. It's hard to imagine that he's no longer with us.

RIP Patrick.

It wasn't the strongest season finale in the world, but it was still enjoyable and set up some new storylines to take us into Season 3.

True Blood S2 Ep12 - Spoilers )

And now we have the long, long wait until S3 starts next summer. *sigh*

Oh well, at least I still have Supernatural. :)

I watched two very different season premieres yesterday. Spoilery reactions under the cut.

Supernatural S5 Ep1 )

I have a feeling this is going to be one hell of a season.

Roll on next week!

The Vampire Diaries S1 Ep1 )

I really did like the show, I promise! I just couldn't resist a bit of friendly mocking of the cheese. :D
